Indufor carried out a carbon assessment in Lao PDR, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), from 2019 to 2021, together with Kokusai Kogyo, Japan. The project area comprised biodiversity corridors in Sekong and Attapeu provinces in Lao PDR, as well as adjacent watershed areas.
The aim was to provide information on the change in forest carbon stock due to deforestation and forest degradation, identify drivers behind these changes and propose potential mitigation measures. Indufor undertook a two-phased approach. The first phase included an HCVF assessment, identification of drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, forest cover and carbon assessment including the definition of a reference emissions level and a summary report. In phase 2 Indufor assisted the Department of Forestry to formulate Provinicial REDD+ Action Plans (PRAPs) for Attapeu and Sekong provinces.
