Monitor at Any Scale: Landscape Monitoring Simplified

By 3 February 2025August 18th, 2025Case Studies, Resource Monitoring

At Indufor, our monitoring activities are driven by the need to accurately track and characterise land cover change across forested landscapes. Our work spans from verifying planted areas for forest valuation to developing systems for tracking and reporting annual forest loss at a national scale.

We understand the challenges of managing large volumes of data and transforming raw information into clear, actionable insights. That’s why a core feature of our monitoring platform Indufor | Dwell is its ability to seamlessly access and process satellite data, streamlining monitoring processes to keep you informed and in control.

Dwell offers a flexible online framework that monitors forest loss, harvest progress, regulatory compliance, and plantation health with ease.

Case Study: Tracking Disease Outbreaks

In 2023, an unusually wet summer on New Zealand’s East Coast triggered a significant outbreak of Red Needle Cast (RNC) in pine plantations, peaking in September 2024.

Using Sentinel-2 imagery and the Dwell platform, the initial outbreak was detected in March 2024. From this point onwards, the progression of the disease was tracked and mapped as it spread across the region.

Forest pathogens like RNC can be difficult to track because they often emerge unpredictably in isolated forest pockets and intensify under certain climatic conditions.

Dwell platform gives forest growers an effective way to review the latest satellite imagery, triage and classify change alerts, and focus resources where they’re most needed. The end-to-end solution removes the burden of sifting through vast datasets, delivering concise, actionable intelligence that enables timely interventions and helps refine monitoring and surveillance strategies.
