The Embassy of Finland in Dar es Salaam funded the study tour of the Tanzania Forest Industries Federation (SHIVIMITA) members to Finland. The study tour was organized with the assistance of Indufor and it involved 18 Tanzanian small and medium forest industry entrepreneurs.
The objectives of the study tour were to achieve exposure to forest industries, learn about efficient and appropriate technologies, gain information on product development, funding opportunities and to establish international business partnerships to be able to develop the local forest industries.
SHIVIMITA, the member associations, and their members sought to establish relationships with Finnish forest industry companies and machinery manufacturers for long-term collaboration, as well as business-to- business cooperation promotion. Another objective was to increase the capacity of Tanzanian forest industry SMEs and businesses, and learn from relevant practicable examples in Finland regarding effective business management, production and enterprise growth issues. The study tour programme – prepared and hosted by Indufor consisted of meetings with Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Finnfund/Finnpartnership, and other relevant organizations such as Finnish Forest Industries Federation, Metsähallitus and MTK. Special emphasis in the programme was to visit wood industry machinery manufacturers.
The study tour was funded from the Local Cooperation Fund managed by the Embassy of Finland in Dar es Salaam, and the participants were in Finland for 10 days between 26 October and 6 November 2011.
