Jyrki Salmi, Managing Director of Indufor, gave a presentation on Forest-based Bioeconomy Outlook in the Agents’ Day of the Finnish Sawmills Association on 16 February 2017.
The on-going investments will increase the wood consumption in Finland some 10 million m3, and if all the announced investment plans go ahead there will be a need for other 10 million m3 of wood raw material. Theoretically, the wood could be available from Finnish forests, but there would be significant challenges related to increasing wood prices and assortment inbalances.
