Indufor Oy was awarded a contract worth EUR 9 million to support the implementation of the project “Sustainable Forestry Development for Rural Development” in the Lao PDR funded by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and co-financed by the World Bank. The project will be implemented over a period of four years in 2009-2012.
The project will support a wide range of activities ranging from policy development to field implementation covering issues as diverse as forest management in production and protected forests, forest inventory, carbon monitoring, law enforcement, management information systems, timber sales, forest industry and trade development, institutional strengthening of state forest service and village institutions, benefit sharing, and participation of ethnic minorities.
The services will be delivered to contribute to the project development objective which is to achieve the sustainable management of natural production forests for rural poverty reduction in the Lao PDR. The specific objectives of the project are to:
Improve policy, legal and incentive framework to expand Participatory Sustainable Forest Management (PSFM) throughout the country
Bring the country’s priority Production Forest Area under PSFM
Improve villagers’ livelihoods through benefits from sustainable forestry, community development and development of viable livelihood systems
