Indufor will be providing technical assistance to Decentralised Forest and Other Natural Resource Management Programme in Zambia. Indufor, together with ORGUT, Sweden, recently signed the contract for the implementation of this three-year programme.
The contract is for a three-year introductory phase of a planned long-term field programme focusing on improving people’s livelihoods and sustainability of forestry and land use in Northwestern and Muchinga provinces. Activities will include development of decentralised forest management systems, training of government staff and local communities in participatory forest management, integrated natural resource assessment and land use planning, improving information management systems, and promoting small scale forestry and other natural resource- based livelihood models.
The programme will also support the creation of an enabling policy and regulatory framework for participatory forest management and strengthen capacity for marketing forest and non-wood forest products.
The programme will start with its headquarters in Lusaka in February.
