Indufor is carrying out a study in South East Asia on feasibility of voluntary forest certification systems and procedures in verification of legality of timber and timber products.
The study will address the current and future potential of voluntary certification as proof of legality under EU FLEGT licensing scheme or the U.S. Lacey Act. Market trends in certified timber products will be estimated and the importance of voluntary certification as investment criteria among the major investors operating in the region will be reviewed.
The study covers Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Lao PDR and Vietnam, and it is to be completed in May 2011.
