Indufor is supporting the Land Trust Alliance’s Common Ground initiative, which seeks to create a dynamic exchange of information and ideas with land trusts, conservation advocates and new audiences. The initiative is a critically important first step in learning about and catalyzing models of community conservation that strengthen and prepare the Land Trust Alliance and its members to address some of the most pressing conservation challenges facing the movement while ensuring that all people and communities share in the benefits of conservation.
Founded in 1982, the Land Trust Alliance is a national land conservation organization that represents more than 1 000 member land trusts supported by 4.6 million members nationwide. The Alliance is the voice of the land trust community. As the national leader in policy, standards, education and training, they work to support land trusts so they can save and secure more lands now and for future generations.
Karena Mahung of the Indufor North America office is currently serving as technical lead and stakeholder engagement specialist for the Common Ground Initiative. With leadership from Wendy Jackson, Executive Vice President of the Land Trust Alliance and other partners, the team is halfway through a year-long project focused on engaging advocates, innovators, funders, experts and practitioners who support a diverse and dynamic range of community conservation models. The project team has been collecting data through interviews, focus groups and surveys and will be compiling a report to be presented to the Alliance board at the end of the year to inform a 4-5 year implementation plan.
